1. Who we are and scope

TutoCoder is based in Guatemala and is the data controller responsible for your personal data. This policy applies to:

  • the website tutocoder.com, including its online tools and courses; and
  • every mobile application published by TutoCoder on Google Play and, in the future, on the Apple App Store (each an "App"),

together, the "Services". If a specific App collects data that is not described here, that App will tell you before collecting it, and its Google Play "Data safety" section will reflect it.

2. Information we collect

Not every Service collects every item below. We only collect what a Service needs for the features you use.

Information you give us

  • Account information: name, email address and password (stored only as a secure hash) when you create an account.
  • Age or date of birth: to confirm you meet the minimum age and offer an age-appropriate experience.
  • Profile photo: if you choose to upload one or it is provided by your social sign-in account.
  • Content and messages: anything you create or save in an App, and the messages you send to support or feedback.

Information from social sign-in providers

If you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, we receive the basic profile information you authorize. See Sign in with Google, Facebook and Apple.

Information collected automatically

  • Device information: device model, operating system and version, language, time zone and app version.
  • Usage data: the screens and features you use, interactions and session duration.
  • Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data.
  • Identifiers: IP address, app instance identifiers and, for advertising, the device advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID on Android, IDFA on iOS when you allow tracking).
  • Approximate location: country or city inferred from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location unless an App specifically asks for it and you grant permission.

Device permissions

An App may ask for access to your camera or photo library only so you can take or select a profile photo or use a feature that needs it. You can refuse or revoke permissions at any time in your device settings; the rest of the App will keep working.

Online tools

The tools on our website run in your browser. The text you enter into them is processed on your device and is not sent to or stored on our servers.

3. How we use your information

  • To provide, operate and maintain the Services, including creating and managing your account.
  • To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
  • To verify age and adapt the experience (including ads) to it.
  • To personalize content, such as displaying your name and profile photo.
  • To answer your support requests and send service-related messages (for example, security or policy notices).
  • To understand how the Services are used, fix bugs and improve them.
  • To show advertising, which keeps many of our Services free (see Advertising).
  • To prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents.
  • To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

We will only send you marketing emails if you have opted in, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

4. Legal bases

Where laws such as the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) apply, we rely on:

  • Contract: to provide the Services you request, such as your account.
  • Consent: for personalized advertising, optional permissions and marketing. You may withdraw consent at any time.
  • Legitimate interests: to secure, analyze and improve the Services, where those interests are not overridden by your rights.
  • Legal obligation: when the law requires us to keep or disclose information.

5. Sign in with Google, Facebook and Apple

You can create an account or sign in using a third-party account. When you do, we receive only what you authorize:

  • Google Sign-In: name, email address, profile photo and a unique Google account identifier.
  • Facebook Login: name, email address, profile photo and an app-scoped Facebook user identifier.
  • Sign in with Apple (planned for future Apps): name, a unique Apple identifier and an email address. If you choose "Hide My Email", we receive an Apple relay address instead of your real one.

We never receive your password for those accounts. We do not post anything on your behalf. Your use of these providers is governed by their own terms and privacy policies. You can remove TutoCoder's access at any time from your Google, Facebook or Apple account settings.

6. Advertising

Some Services display ads served by Google AdMob (and, on the website, Google advertising services). To choose and measure ads, these partners may collect your device advertising identifier, IP address, approximate location and interactions with ads, and may use cookies or similar technologies.

  • In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before showing personalized ads. Without consent, you will see non-personalized ads.
  • Users we know or believe to be under the age of digital consent only receive non-personalized ads.
  • On Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings › Google › Ads. On iOS, Apps will ask for permission before tracking, and you can change it in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking.

Learn more about how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

8. How we share information

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only:

  • with the service providers listed above, who help us run the Services;
  • with advertising partners as described in Advertising;
  • when required by law, court order or a valid request from authorities, or to protect the rights, safety and property of TutoCoder, our users or others;
  • in connection with a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, in which case this policy will continue to protect your data; and
  • with your consent, or when you choose to make information public.

9. Data retention

  • Account data is kept while your account is active.
  • When you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days. Copies in backups are overwritten within 90 days.
  • Analytics and crash data are kept for up to 14 months.
  • Support messages are kept for up to 2 years so we can follow up on your requests.
  • We may keep some information longer when the law requires it or to resolve disputes and prevent abuse.

10. Account and data deletion

You can delete your account and associated data at any time from inside the App or by following the steps on our account deletion page. You can also ask us to delete specific data without deleting your account by writing to [email protected].

11. Security

We protect your data with encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls and reputable infrastructure providers. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by law.

12. Children and age

Unless a specific App says otherwise, the Services are not directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age required by the law of your country (for example, 16 in some EU countries). We ask for your age to apply these limits. Users between that minimum age and 18 should use the Services with the permission of a parent or guardian.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent. If you believe a child has provided us personal data, contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it. If we publish an App directed to children, it will comply with the Google Play Families Policy and the applicable children's privacy laws, such as COPPA.

13. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • access the personal data we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • correct inaccurate data;
  • delete your data;
  • restrict or object to certain processing;
  • data portability;
  • withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing; and
  • lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents have the right to know, delete and correct their personal information, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not sell personal information; you can limit ad personalization as explained in Advertising. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

To exercise any right, email [email protected] from the address linked to your account. We may need to verify your identity and will respond within 30 days (or the period set by your local law).

14. International transfers

We and our providers may process your data in countries other than yours, including the United States. When we transfer data, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as the standard contractual clauses offered by our providers.

15. Cookies on our website

Our website uses:

  • Essential cookies to keep the site secure and working (for example, session and security tokens);
  • Analytics cookies from Google Analytics to understand how the site is used; and
  • Preferences stored in your browser, such as light or dark theme.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Some features may not work without essential cookies.

16. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will change the "Last updated" date above and, if the changes are significant, we will notify you in the App or by email before they take effect.
